Sibast OS29 Sideboard by Arne Vodder
Designed by renowned architect and designer Arne Vodder, the OS29 is a well revered piece of mid century Danish furniture that marked a famous collaboration between Vodder and Sibast, and presents iconic characteristics of Vodders simple, organic, and elegant design along with a profound understanding of materials. Vodder had previously developed a unique drawer shape which re-purposed the frontage as a natural handle, eliminating the need for additional elements. The sideboard is hand crafted from solid teak with beautiful grain outside and in. It is both remarkable and modest, the piece really has an air of prestige without being imposing.
The sideboard consists of a section with 5 drawers, and another section with two large compartments, both contain one fixed height shelf each, concealed by two sliding doors. The piece is set on low tapered feet to maximise internal space.
Arne Vodder was originally considered one of Denmark’s most prominent architects in the 1950s, when his own architecture firm designed over 1,000 low cost homes and was hailed a great success. Vodder was trained by master carpenter Niels Vodder in the 1940s and later mentored by Finn Juhl, who became a close friend. Vodder’s furniture was exported across the world and could be found in esteemed interiors such as The Whitehouse and The Vatican.
This is an extremely rare early incarnation of the Sibast OS29 sideboard which features circular finger holes on the sliding doors, which were replaced with a pill shape in subsequent and more commonly found examples.
Dimensions
W: 183cm D: 55.5cm H: 76cm
Drawer Width: 56cm

Condition
Very good condition. The piece has been cosmetically refurbished, refinished in four coats of a hard wax oil outside and inside. The sliding doors and drawers run smoothly. The base and construction is solid.
There are a couple of signs of age which add to its patination, including a clean gap on one side panel and slight separation at the corners of the side and top panels. All as photographed.
